Geelong & Surfcoast Doula Services is proud to partner with Diversitat Training to offer the Certificate in Doula Support Services, Australia’s only Doula training program to incorporate Nationally Recognized Training and offer multiple employment outcomes.   

 The Certificate in Doula Support Services will give you the knowledge and skills to provide support to pregnant women and their partners throughout their child bearing journey, birth and early post natal period. You may also continue into further studies in Nursing.   

The course focuses on ensuring students develop skills relevant to current health care practice while deepening their knowledge relating to pregnancy, childbirth and maternity support.     

This course will teach you how to                  
  • Understand Normal Pregnancy and Childbirth               
  • Provide safe and reliable emotional, physical and informational support to both parents during pregnancy, childbirth and early parenting.               
  • Operate legally and effectively within the health care sector.               
  • Provide patient advocacy               
  • Operate a small business legally and ethically

15 units of this course may be used as credit toward the Diploma of Nursing for students wishing to continue to further study.   

Course Structure   
The course is delivered in partnership with Diversitat Training. The course includes classroom component, off campus study components and industry placement. Classes are conducted during the day and commence at various times throughout the year.  

Course Duration 
Courses are held part time over 21 weeks   Home work assignments will also be required to be undertaken. Most students can anticipate completing the course in 8 – 12 months. Students must successfully complete both theory and practical components to receive certification.        

Industry Placement 
Each student must complete 120 hours placement and follow three pregnant women from prior to 28 weeks gestation through until at least 1 week post birth. Assistance with placement may be made available through Geelong & Surfcoast Doula Services and/or utilizing the students own contacts.     

Entry Requirements ·             
A current, clear police check (obtained during course)               
Current working with children check              

Funding and Fees 
Components of this course may be funded to students eligible for Victorian and Commonwealth Government Funding.

10 weeks plus placement.

Course Pre-requisites

None, however a basic knowledge and passion for pregnancy and childbirth support is essential.

Practical Placement

You will be required to support two pregnant and / or post partum women throughout their journey. We will assist you with securing these clients and provide you with a professional mentor and back up student to support you 24/7 throughout your placement.
